101 Reykjavik (2000) 101 Reykjavik

101 Reykjavik ★★ 2000 Icelandic comedy about a slacker and his mom. The slacker is the pushing 30 Hlynur (Gudnason) who lives with indulgent mom Berglind (Karlsdottir). He's cynical, jobless and unambitious (though not unintelligent). Then Berglind invites her Spanish friend Lola (Abril), who's teaching flamenco at the local dance school, to stay. Hylnur falls for the hottie bigtime and they have a drunken New Year's Eve fling while Berglind is away—and before she manages to tell her son that Lola is her own lover. And then Lola finds out she's pregnant. Oh, the complications! Icelandic and English dialogue. 90m/C VHS, DVD.
