Cars, Boats, Planes, and Trains | What Is A Hummve?
What is a hummve?
The U.S. Army originally developed the HMMWV (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle), usually called the Hummer or Hummve, in 1979 as a possible replacement for the military jeep. Today, the military possesses more than 100,000 Hummves. These vehicles can operate in all weather extremes and are designed as troop transports, light-weapon platforms, ambulances, and mobile shelters.
A civilian version of the Hummve is also available. It comes with features such as air conditioning, soundproofing, bucket seats, and a stereo sound system, and sells for around $50,000.
