Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education Teacher Education Loan

(Four Year College, University/Loan)

Purpose: Renewable loans for graduates of an Alaskan high school pursuing teaching careers in rural elementary and secondary schools in Alaska. Must be nominated by rural school district. Eligible for 100% forgiveness if loan recipient teaches in rural Alaska upon graduation. Several awards of up to $7500 each. Must maintain good standing at institution. Focus: Education Qualif.: Applicant must be: full-time student. High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.

A.W. "Winn" Brindle Memorial Education Loans

(Four Year College, Two Year College, University, Vocational/Occupational/Loan)

Purpose: Renewable loan for study of approved curriculum in fisheries, seafood processing, food technology or related fields for Alaska residents. Must maintain good standing at institution. Eligible for up to 50% forgiveness if recipient returns to Alaska for employment in fisheries-related field. Focus: Food Science/Nutrition; Animal/Veterinary Sciences; Natural Resources; Biology; Agribusiness Qualif.: Applicant must be: full-time student. High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens. No. and Amount Awarded Last Calendar Year: 42 loan(s), totalling $359,234. To Apply: Required: application form; essay. Deadline: 5/15. Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) Program

(Four Year College, Two Year College, University/Grant)

Purpose: Program allowing Alaska residents to enroll at two- or four-year institutions in participating states at a reduced tuition level, which is the in-state tuition plus a percentage of that amount. To be used for full-time undergraduate studies. See Web site at http://www.state.ak.us/acpe for further information, a list of eligible institutions, and deadlines. Qualif.: Applicant must be: full-time student. High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.
